WIRE ROPES PRODUCTION PROCESS
Steel wire ropes are built-up by strands. The strands are made by winding together, in an helicoidal way and over a central wire, several steel wires in 1 or more layers.
Steel wire ropes are made by winding together several strands, in an helicoidal way and over a central fibre or metal core. They are subdivided in:
- Spiral wire ropes and strands.
- Standard wire ropes.
- Same-pitch wire ropes.
- Wire ropes with triangular strands.
- Non-rotating wire ropes.
- Forming wire ropes.
QUALITY CONTROL MANUFACTURING PROCESS
RAW MATERIAL
Wire rod in rolls of a selected quality, checked in our laboratories.
CHEMICAL PICKLING (DESCALING)
Oxide elimination by immersion in an acid bath.
DRAWING
Making of the steel wire by cold pulling of the rod.
PATENTING
Austenisation process of the wire, followed by controlled cooling to give it the optimal metallurgical properties.
GALVANIZATION
Immersion in a molten zinc bath.
STRANDING
Formation of the strand by joining the wires.
CLOSING
Formation of the wire rope, by joining the strands.
We will only deal with Spiral wire ropes and strands, Standard wire ropes, Same-pitch wire ropes, Non-rotating wire ropes and Forming wire ropes.

The core of the wire rope can be made, either from steel (normally a strand or a simple wire rope made up of seven strands), or from organic or synthetic textile fibres.
